GENERAL INFORMATION

Fatima Convent School is an educational Institution run by the Catholic Minority Community and recognized by the Department of Education, Gujarat State. It is managed by the Carmelite Sisters of Charity of Vedruna through a registered body. It comprises Nursery, L.K.G., H.K.G. and Std. 1 to 12. Here Education is imparted according to the VEDRUNA EDUCATION PLAN hence the school aims not merely at preparing its pupils to qualify for and be successful at the S.S.C. and H.S.C. Examinations but to form NEW PERSONS FOR A RE-CREATED SOCIETY based on VALUES.

Thus the Fundamental Elements of the Vedruna Education are:

  • The PERSON is a being in relationship: With oneself, with other person, with the universe, With God.
  • The re-created SOCIETY we want to bring about is:
  • Fraternal and in Solidarity.
  • Free, Responsible and Creative.
  • Just and Participative.
  • The VALUES we want to emphasize are:
  • Life, Freedom, Justice, Peace, Fraternity Faith, Love and Transcendence.

The media of instruction is English and Gujarati, and stress is laid to adopt the teaching to the Indian mind and good traditions of the Indian people. Gujarati has an important place in the school curriculum for those children whose mother tongue is Gujarati. Though the school is primarily meant to provide Catholic children with sound religious and moral education, other pupils are also admitted with due respect to their religious feelings and freedom of conscience. A course in Moral Instruction and Value Education is given to students to inculcate in them the fundamental duties of man to God, to himself, his fellow men and the Universe.

History

A TREE GROWS IN BHAVNAGAR

Fr. John Palau S.J. who had worked for many years in Bhavnagar, cherished hope to establish a convent school in the untapped soil of Bhavnagar and he proposed to different religious institutes in Spain. In 1953 the Institute of Carmelite Sisters of Charity responding to the call of Fr. John Palau sent five Sisters to Bhavnagar, Gujarat.

On the memorable 12th of February 1953 the five Sisters arrived on the soil of Bhavnagar. These noble pioneers were Sr. Zoila Ganzarain, Sr. Pilar Navarrete, Sr. Asuncion Escayola, Sr. Maria Ricart and Sr. Elvira Garcia. They fostered the idea of opening a school. And with untiring zeal, this small group of pioneers kept on shaping their ideal into a reality with the goodwill and warm welcome of the educational authorities, other officials and good citizens of Bhavnagar.

Their generous co-operation helped in the development of the school which grew in height, strength and beauty. The zeal and spirit of the pioneers spread far and wide, bringing more hands to the field of labour. The number of the students increased every year with their motto of “Service above self”.

Alert to the actual needs of the society, a new dream began to take shape and in June 2008 a new wing was added to Fatima Convent Public School, under the guidance of Sr. Fatima Borges, the then Principal of Fatima Convent High School.

From the very beginning, the school aimed at molding the young minds in order to transform them into worthy citizens of our motherland and equip them with human values that would make them outstanding in self confidence as persons.
